Leaking Shower Repairs

If you suspect that your shower is leaking, but you haven’t yet tracked down the source of the leak, you’ve come to the right place. A shower leak can be very serious. Leaking showers are prone to causing damage such as water damage, mold growth, and structural issues.

It won’t go away if you just ignore it, so it’s important to figure out the cause of a leaking shower, and get it fixed right away. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the 3 most common causes of leaking showers – and your best options for affordable shower repair. Let’s get started now.

1. Check The Shower Floor

This is the best way to figure out if the waterproof membrane under your shower has failed, and you need shower waterproofing. It also lets you determine if the issue is related to your shower itself, or if you need leaking repair for your plumbing.

Seal your drain using high-quality, waterproof duct tape, with as many layers as you deem necessary. Then, fill up your shower with water, using a bucket or a garden hose, until there is a reasonable layer of water sitting in the tub or, or below the level of the shower screens.

This lets you check your shower sealing. Wait for several hours. If you start to notice leaks below your shower, or on the floor around the shower, chances are that your floor tiles in the shower need to be removed, and you need a new waterproof membrane.

2. Examine The Drain

To fix a leaking shower, you may also need to look at your drain. This is another one of the most common shower areas that may cause a leak. This is best done in conjunction with step 1. After you have sealed the drain and let the water sit – and you have not noticed a leak – remove the duct tape without removing the water.

Then, let the water drain out of the tub or shower enclosure. This will help you check the shower sealing of the drain. If you notice leaks after doing this, chances are that there is a crack somewhere in the pipe under your drain, or it is otherwise compromised and needs to be replaced.

3. Take A Look At The Walls

Checked your floor and drain? The next step is to check your walls. You may be missing grout between some of your tiles, which could be causing a leak.

Check this by splashing or spraying water on each of your walls, one at a time. Soak each wall, and look for leaks after getting each wall wet. In addition, look for missing grout before and after
